In the blogging mood!

So I should be doing research but I find myself checking out flights back home for Christmas, looking at other people's blogs, and just wasting time on the web!

Anyway update on the tanning situation! I decided after Molly used the word botox that tanning was a thing in my past! And 80 Euro for 120 minutes is an expensive way to get wrinkles! I decided to put my money to better use and join a gym! Now I can work off all those yummy sweets, Irish breakfasts, and potatoes that I've enjoyed since my arrival!

Question for y'all as well...Who do you think will win the election??? This isn't who do you want to win but what is your feeling about who will get the votes in the end.... About every other person asks me who I'm voting for over here....kinda strange cause we have it in our brains not to talk bout religion and politics! haha even though some of us do! : )

I am proud of you for joining a gym. I still haven't joined anything and don't even go to the gym at my apt complex. You can definetely tell! I can't tell who is going to win. The new polls are showing it to be a close race. There have been a lot of new people registered to vote. I think you know who Matt is voting for! He went to early vote today!

I forgot about him showing body pump moves to you! That is crazy that it is the same over there. That is comforting!

We're screwed either way. All politicians are interest group puppets and ultimately morons. Kind of ominous to me that Obama reminds me of a ventriloquist dummy with those deep creases around his mouth...

So proud Jo! I've managed to steer clear of the fake bake as well... I was tempted today but I think your blog was just the support I needed to stick to my guns! Ok, so about the election, the polls are predicting a close outcome with Obama in the lead right now... I'm not crazy about either candidate either. I feel like I'm picking the best of the worst... not a good feeling. Anywho, I miss you! COME HOME (I'm echoing Emily)

So I feel you Jo on the crazy crazy academic life. There have been three presentations in the last three weeks so I've felt chained to the computer. Anyway, I'm amazed by this blog world when I come up for air!
On the election, I'm interested in knowing about what Dublin's news coverage is. Do you get any general sentiment from people there?
While I can't deny that politicians fill a puppet like position, I have been very impressed with Obama's intellect and proposals (as have Republican Colin Powell and non-liberal mags like The Economist). Realistically, the 'changes' he promises to bring will be limited as would McCain's. The most convincing argument for Obama in my opinion, is his power to inspire young people to participate in democracy. The strongest argument against McCain/Palin is the degrading 'fear' approach to our voters, hinting at Obama being a muslim and therefore terrorist. His campaign has been degrading to Obama's patriotism and degrading to American voters, bringing out the worst in our intuitions. McCain is an outstanding person and citizen but his campaign has represented negativity and fear tactics. Obama has only shown poise and dignity, two qualities I want in my President.

Miss you Josie!
